Exclusive: Iconic Dungeons & Dragons Art Reimagined As Magic: The Gathering Cards

D&D is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Secret Lair superdrop.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering is getting five Secret Lair drops themed around both Baldur’s Gate 3 and the storied tabletop RPG as a whole. Today we’ve got the exclusive reveal of all seven cards in one of those drops: An Exhibition of Adventure. Flip through the gallery below to see all seven cards: While one of the anniversary drops features cards themed around Karlach and another focuses on Astarion, this drop takes a trip across the full history of D&D. Each card uses the original cover art of a different source book, stretching all the way back to the monochromatic art on “Dungeons & Dragons Supplement I: Greyhawk” from 1975, which is depicted on the white card Fell the Mighty. Each edition and generation of D&D is represented in the drop, primarily by using the art of the relevant Dungeon Master’s Guide. However, they aren’t all about the DM, with the card Faithless Looting borrowing from the 1978 Players Handbook and the card Monster Manual (itself from 2022’s D&D-themed Battle for Baldur’s Gate set) very aptly disguised as the 3rd Edition Monster Manual from 2000. The cards in the other four drops that are part of the Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary Superdrop are yet to be revealed, but they are titled Astarion’s Thirst, Karlach’s Rage, and Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder I & II. All five of them will go on sale August 27 on the Secret Lair site.
