A high-profile modder has released a free mod that lets Dragon’s Dogma 2 players access DLSS 3 Frame Generation, which users have reported adds another 20 to 30fps for RTX 40 series GPU owners. Dragon’s Dogma 2, out today, suffers from performance issues even on powerful PCs, particularly in relation to frame-rate. Developer and publisher Capcom has apologized to PC players on Steam for the performance issues, blaming them on heavy CPU usage when numerous characters appear at the same time. Now, on the day of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s launch, modder PureDark has released a mod that enables the game's own hidden DLSS 3 Frame Generation implementation for free. Released last year, DLSS 3 is the third generation of Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling technology that can increase frame-rates for supported PC games. DLSS 3 uses AI-powered Frame Generation tech to generates entire frames in real time, benefiting GPU and CPU-limited games. The caveat, however, is that DLSS 3 is exclusive to the RTX 40 series of GPUs, including the just-announced RTX 40 Super series. Files for DLSS 3 Frame Generation are present in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s database, though there’s no implementation. PureDark specializes in creating DLSS 3 and DLSS 2 mods, and hit the headlines last year for restricting access to his more advanced Starfield DLSS 3 mod behind a $5-per-month Patreon subscription. This Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLSS 3 mod, however, is available to download for free. In a post on Patreon, PureDark flagged that some users of Frame Generation in Dragon's Dogma 2 had reported crashes and freezes (“probably the reason it's hidden at launch”), but insisted many were having no issues after hours of playing the game. “Try it and see whether you can use FG,” PureDark suggested. “If not you'll have to wait for the official patch to fix it.” On that note, Capcom has said it’s aware of issues for “some setups” when DLSS Super Resolution is turned on, and promised fixes are currently underway for an upcoming patch. Capcom added that it plans to add DLSS Frame Generation in a future title update.
